Debevoise & Plimpton LLP Name Seven New Partners

The following associates at Debevoise & Plimpton were promoted to full partners: Thomas Smith and Uri Herzberg from the private equity team, and David L. Portilla, Sarah Coyne, Ina C. Popova, Patrick Taylor, and David Sarratt. These new promotions all take effect on July 1st of this year. According to a press release done by the company, each of these people has earned their positions just appointed, as full partners in the joint-venture of the firm. The following is a synopsis of each person’s position and primary focus.

Thomas Smith is in the London, England office. He is a member of the Finance and Private Equity Group and the Corporate Department. He has been key in complex Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) that required syndicated bank loans and high-yield transaction performance.

Uri Herzberg is the other new partner who is also in the Finance and Private Equity Group, located in New York. He is most concerned in matters of private equity acquisitions, mergers, divestitures, and investments for corporations as clients.

David L. Portilla is a part of the Banking Group and also the Corporate Department, in New York. His job is to advise domestic and international banks and other types of finance organizations with matters of governance, regulatory process, and complex transactions. He is the expert on regulatory reform, including the proper way to implement the Volcker Rule.

Ina C. Popova is part of the International Dispute Resolution Group and the Litigation Department. Her specialties include complicated business litigation, international arbitration, and public law internationally.

Patrick Taylor is located in the London office. He works alongside Ina Popova in Litigation and the International Dispute Resolution Group. He is most experienced in telecom and high-level oil and gas energy sectors.

David Sarratt is a member of the Litigation Department in New York, as well as the White Collar & Regulatory Defense Group. An experienced trial lawyer in defending those accused of white collar crime, Sarratt has been an Assistant United States Attorney.

Sarah Coyne works closely with Sarratt in New York in the White Collar & Regulatory Defense Group and Litigation Department. She is most focused on investigations into white collar cases. For 14 years she had been a federal prosecutor and was more recently was an Assistant U.S. Attorney.
